TAP20006 - Tapestry - ~127×90 cm

100 % - Punjab Wool. Limited Edition.

This tapestry is an original design created by Luís Soares and executed in Tapisseries de la Mere, a weaving workshop in Pondicherry, which is characterised by collaborative efforts between international and Indian artists working with hand weavers from the local Tamil population.
The weaving technique used to create these tapestries actually originated in Europe and was introduced to India in the early 19th century by a German lady who came to live in Pondicherry and develop her weaving craft there. The technique was immediately absorbed by the local weavers, making Pondicherry the most important centre for this type of weaving in India today. The technique called 'Split-Weave', allows the representation of great detail in any design.
This tapestry is made with 100% wool originating from the northern state of Punjab in India. The wool is treated against moths. Some of the wool is pre-dyed in basic colours, and then many more vibrant and vigorous colours are created in the dyeing unit integrated in Tapisseries de la Mere. We use the best dyes to ensure uniformity and colourfastness, so you can dry clean without fear of colours fading or fading.
